- How is my tournament handicap set?
AGA tournament handicaps adhere to the same policies as used for GHIN handicaps except where noted below:
- With an exception for new members, only scores from members in the pool are eligible AGA tournament scores.
- An eligible AGA tournament score must have been made within the last 12 months and within the player's latest 5-score history. This is the same as GHIN except GHIN a uses a 20-score history. Note that there is no age limit on non-tournament scores.
- When a player has less than five eligible tournament scores, we use the following scale:
o Best 1 of first 1-3 adjusted tournament scores.
o Best 2 of first 4 adjusted tournament scores.
o Best 3 of latest 5 adjusted tournament scores.
- [ top ]
- What is the maximum score I can take on a hole?
During tournaments there is no maximum. However, all scores posted to GHIN must be adjusted by applying 'equitable stroke control' (ESC). Based on your course handicap, the maximum score you can post for a hole on GHIN is:
|
Course Handicap
|
Max Score
|
| 0-9 |
Double bogey |
| 10-19 |
7 |
| 20-29 |
8 |
| 30-39 |
9 |
| 40 or more |
10 |
Eligible AGA tournament scores are adjusted and posted for you. You will need to adjust all non-tournament scores prior to posting to GHIN.

- How are the players assigned to flights?
- We use your course handicap which is based on your AGA tournament handicap index and the slope rating for the course. Our goal is to have at least 4 flights, with 10-18 players per flight while limiting the handicap range within the flight to six or less except for the last flight. How well we do this depends on how many players sign up for the tournament. The more players the better.
- [ top ]
- I'm a new member and I don't have a handicap, can I play in tournaments?
- Yes. You may play in the tournament and compete for closest-to-the-pin and skins in your flight. You are placed in a flight based on using the score you typically shoot - we take your word for it. Your initial AGA tournament score will be used to generate an AGA tournament index which will allow you in the pool in your second event.

- How do you keep people from sandbagging?
This will always be an ongoing battle that all handicap associations face. In AGA tournaments, we use handicaps based only on AGA tournament scores. These scores are attested to by other members playing in the tournament making it difficult for members to sandbag.
It is up to the members to keep an eye on each other. Frequently players break rules out of ignorance, and occasionally a player may intentionally break the rules (cheat). It's your responsibility to the rest of the players to call a player down on rules violations. We play by ALL of the rules of golf in every tournament. We prefer that you do on an everyday basis. This means no mulligans, don't roll the ball for a better lie, no grounding your club in the hazard, etc. It will make you a better golfer and your handicap will be accurate. This will also make our association stronger and more reputable.

- Is there a club championship tournament?
- The club championship is a two-day tournament, usually held in September. Each round will be played at a different course. There is also a dinner the night before the tournament where we have a Calcutta for those who want to participate.

- I want an AGA shirt or cap, how can I get one?

- What are the AGA Points Race Rules?
- The AGA no longer has a points race. In the past we have had a points race. Our previous points race is described below.
The Points Race is a contest that tracks participation and winning during the AGA tournament schedule. The intent of this contest is to encourage even more participation in our tournaments by awarding points for signing up for the players pool and skins and awarding points for placing in the players pool (1st, 2nd, and 3rd, including ties), winning a skin, and for winning CTP. We will keep track and post the results on the website after each tournament. But first, here's how the points are assigned and calculated:
Players Pool Points
- 10 points for playing in each tournament where you pay to get into the Players Pool
- 25 points for 1st place or tie for 1st place*
- 15 points for 2nd place or tie for 2nd place*
- 10 points for 3rd place or tie for 3rd place*
In multiple man events (team events) each player gets full points.* (both gross and net categories)
Skins Pools Points
- 10 points for playing in each tournament where you pay to get into the Skins Pool
- 10 points for each skin made in the tournament in each flight
In multiple man events (team events) each player will get full points if skins are team skins.
CTP Pool Points
- 25 points for any CTP won in each tournament

- What do the Search Zip Code and Radius features do on the myGame page?
The "Search Zip Code" will populate the "Find Other Players", "Club News", "Upcoming Events", "My Events" and "Weather" modules with applicable public content from eClubhouse sites within a "Radius" of X mile from the center point of the Zip Code you provide. The radius default is 1.0.
Great to use when planning a golfing vacation! Find out news and events from the area you are visiting! Connect with a golfer from the area and meet up for a round of golf!
To change the Search Zip Code and populate your dashboard with content from another area, simply click the numerical Zip Code (located above the USGA Handicap Index module). Enter the new Zip Code and press "Submit". When you return from your trip - just change it back to your local Zip Code!
You can change the radius (i.e. reduce or increase the range of news/events) by using the radius drop-down box and modifying the setting.

- I was just added to eClubhouse and posted three scores to GHIN - where is my H.I.?
Your Handicap Index® is updated according to a revision schedule set by the regional golf association in your area. The Handicap Index display in the Members section is a snapshot of scores that were in your scoring record prior to that effective revision date. So, if you were added on June 10, but the last revision in your area was June 5, then no Handicap Index® will appear on eClubhouse until after the next revision.
In addition, your club can only issue you a Handicap Index® after at least five scores have been posted, in accordance with the USGA Handicap System.

- I just entered a score using "Post to GHIN" through my club's eClubhouse site, but I made a mistake. How do I fix it?
- Your golf club oversees your scoring record and Handicap Index® If you make a mistake, you need to contact a representative from your club to correct the error.

- I just entered a score using "myStats Scores", but I made a mistake. How do I fix it?
Any score posted using the eClubhouse feature "myStats Scores" can be edited on eClubhouse. However, if "Post Scores to GHIN" was chosen when the score was posted, the score will have to be changed in your record on the GHIN Server as well by contacting your Golf Club.
To modify a score in eClubhouse, use the "Display/Update Rounds" option in "myStats Reports". Locate the score to be modified and chose "edit".

- How do I establish my handicap?
As an AGA member, you'll have two handicap indexes. One is an official USGA GHIN handicap index. The other is an AGA tournament handicap index which is used exclusively for AGA tournament handicapping, see the FAQ "How is my tournament handicap set?" for more details.
To establish a USGA GHIN handicap, you must post at least five eligible scores from rated courses into the GHIN system. Most people do this online; however, if you are unable to do this, we will enter them for you if you provide legible scorecards that have been dated, signed, attested, and indicate which tees were played.
The AGA strongly encourages its members to post all eligible non-tournament scores to GHIN. All AGA tournament scores will be posted to GHIN for you. The AGA is based on the integrity and honesty that the game of golf was founded on.
- [ top ]
- Can I bring a handicap from another club?
- Yes, we will assign you a special, one-time AGA tournament index equal to 80% of that handicap index for your first AGA tournment. We will then use your first AGA tournament score to establish an AGA tournament index to be used in future AGA tournaments.
